||Rest for Mr Rice
After 34 years in the Water industry, Mr Albert "Algy" Rice retired on Friday. Mr Rice, who lives at Cross Street, Elmswell, started as an apprentice plumber and rose to become a senior Inspector with the Anglian Water Authority. He Joined Thedwaste Rural Council in 1951 and was appointed a plumbing and. wastage Inspector in 1964. Mr Rice became chief inspector of the Lower Ouse Division in 1974 when the water authorities were formed and as a senior inspector, dealt with inquiries and complaints from customers and advised on the laying of new water supplies. A farewell party was held at the Anglian Water depot in King's Road, Bury St Edmunds, where Mr Rice is based. General manager, Mr Peter Bullock, presented him with a long service certificate and a gift from the authority. There was also a gift from Mr Rice's colleagues. Mr Rice told Midweek he and his wife, Betty, were hoping to travel to Canada next year. He is pictured above giving a farewell wave.
