Meetings are normally (but not always!) held on the second Thursday of the month, in St John’s Church Room at 8pm.

Jan 11th Oral History
Prior to our tackling an oral history project for Elmswell, Dr Tessa Stone from Cambridge will speak of the importance of oral history and demonstrate some specific practical techniques involved in recording for the archives.

Feb 8th County Archaeological Sites and Monuments Records
Colin Pendleton from Bury Archaeological Unit will give illustrated talk on the recent ‘finds’ made in and around Elmswell.

Mar 8th The History of the Great Ashfield and Elmswell Airfield
By local expert Roger Dalby.

Clive Paine returns to deliver our First Anniversary Lecture.

May 10th Members’ Evening
A chance for members to display and discuss their own research, to swap information, or just chat.

June 14th Introducing the Museum of East Anglia Life

July 12th 6:45pm at the Museum, for a 7pm start

An evening visit to the Museum of East Anglian Life (Stowmarket)
Guided tour with Jack Edwards. Transport arrangements on 14th June, or contact Norman.

August No meeting

Sept 13th East Anglian Film Archive
Geoff Clarke will show material from this local archive (1896-1967), starting at about 7:30pm,
after our 7 o’clock AGM.

October 11th The Suffolk Dialect
Presentation by Stuart Bowell at 8 pm

Autumn series of talks by Clive Paine
November 15th Anglicans, Methodists and Baptists in Victorian Elmswell. 7:30 start.

November 24th Saturday morning
Tour of Woolpit Church, starting at 10.00 am

November 29th Palaeography – How to read old documents (a practical session). 7:30 start.

December 6th 1897 – Queen Victoria’s Jubilee, as celebrated in the Empire, England and Elmswell. 7:30 start.
NB: The previously announced evening visit to the Bury Record Office is postponed for the time being
